(And, See Cool Stuff With Fun Friends)

Hosts:  Joe Knopp and Bonnie Marsalese

Meet at the Kent Lake Beach parking lot in Island Lake Recreation Area.  Once through the entrance go to the first parking lot on your left.

Bring your bike and kayak.  Or, rent a kayak or canoe from Heavner’s, located right on the lake at that same parking lot.  We drop our kayaks there, then drive cars with bikes loaded through the park to River Bend Picnic Area .

Tip: Use a bike lock to fasten your kayak to a tree.

Unload bikes and pedal back to where we left the kayaks.

To get a little more lower body exercise, we may pedal on before returning to where we left our boats.

Once back, unlock flotilla, lock up  wheels, strap on kayaks, and paddle about an hour and a half down stream to the deposited cars, at which point we load up kayaks, and motor back for bikes.

No planes or trains are involved with this activity!

Final task;  Drive to Bar None Steak & Fish (11600 Grand River Ave, Brighton) for the final feat-- a celebratory beverage and bite to eat!

Woof!

Island Lake Recreation Area is a 4,000-acre park in Livingston County that offers an "up north" experience without leaving southeast Michigan. The terrain is a mixture of open brush and mature hardwood forest with pockets of open meadows. -- DNR
