Could this be the year I finally check off that bucket list goal?

A Special October Message From the President

Dear Ann Arbor Ski Club Members and Friends,

Wednesday (not Thursday!) October 17th is our third General Meeting of the 2018 - 2019 season.  We'll meet at Cobblestone Farm from 7:30 to 10:30 PM.  The club will provide beer, wine, soft drinks and deluxe snacks. The cost is free to members. (Annual membership is $20 while GM guests pitch in a $5 cover.)

A VERY brief business meeting will begin PROMPTLY at 7:30 PM.  Sign-ups for trips (you must be a member) will commence at 7:45 immediately after the business meeting .  Following trip sign-ups, DJ Paul will entertain us with tunes for the remainder of the evening.

Cross-Country Kick-Off  This meeting is our annual event celebrating Cross-Country Skiing.  We currently offer three trips with cross-country (aka Nordic) skiing.  Each of these is a “combined” trip meaning that downhill skiing is also available.

  1. January 11 - 13, Schuss-Shanty Creek, Bellaire, MI
    Sign-ups are happening
  2. February 1 - 3,  Terrace Inn, Petoskey, MI
    Sign-ups begin at this meeting
  3. March 2 - 9,   Sun Valley, Ketchum, ID
Trip is full, 1 person on the wait list
Traditionally we've offered weekend trips up North that were exclusively Cross-Country.  None are organized so far. If you are interested in leading or co-leading such a trip please contact me.  We still hope to get at least one organized before the snow flies.

Terrace Inn  is our biggest trip of the year.  Sign-ups begin at the XC Kick-Off meeting (at 7:45).  As you know, or may find out, the Terrace Inn property is very unique with a large variation in room types.  Room selections will be made at the time of sign-up and according to your place in line.  A member may sign up one additional member.

After the meeting we'll take additional sign-ups via US Mail or at future meetings.  Mailed-in applications will be processed starting the day after the GM, (October 18th) and in the order they are received.  Once this trip is full, a wait list will be started according to the club's standard wait list procedure.

Schuss-Shanty Creek Instructional Bus Trip  Could this be my last call?!  If we do NOT get another 15 sign-ups by this Friday, 19-October, we will cancel this trip and refund the monies collected.  If we DO get 15, we will continue to take sign-ups through the end of November.  The trip is on January 11 - 13.

It’s been 5 years since we last ran this trip.  We negotiated a special discounted price for 8 (optional) hours of  group instruction at ALL LEVELS-- beginner through expert and downhill or cross-country. Up to four hours on Saturday and 4 more on Sunday.

Whether you haven’t skied in a long time, or you ski all the time, or you’ve never skied this trip is for you.  If you are a beginner or haven’t skied in many years there has never been a better time to learn and enjoy the sport.  And, thanks to recent notable improvements in the equipment there has never been an easier time to learn or improve.  And remember, never say never.  This could be the year!

I have talked to many people who are interested but have yet to enroll.  Now is the time!  Need more convincing?!  Come talk to me at the meeting!  See our website for full details.

I hope to talk with as many of you as possible at tomorrow's meeting.

Sincerely,
Greg Robertson
President, Ann Arbor Ski Club
